Questions, answered
The short version: AnkiCat drafts flashcards from your material and schedules reviews so you remember. Details below.
Is AnkiCat an Anki add-on?
No. AnkiCat is a standalone study app. It is not an Anki add-on, not a cat theme pack, and not affiliated with the Anki desktop project. Both use spaced repetition as a technique, but AnkiCat is its own product with its own apps.
How does AnkiCat generate flashcards with AI?
Upload a PDF, paste notes, or type a topic. Deck Drafting finds key concepts, definitions, and relationships, then drafts question-and-answer cards you can edit before they enter your deck. You can always add cards by hand. The AI saves typing; it does not take over.
What is spaced repetition?
A review schedule backed by decades of cognitive psychology. Instead of re-reading everything at once, each card reappears right before you would naturally forget it. Long-term memory gets stronger with less total study time than cramming.
What is active recall?
Retrieving an answer from memory before you look at it. Every AnkiCat card makes you answer first, then flip. That small effort builds durable memory better than re-reading or highlighting.
Which features use AI?
AI drafts study content from your material. Quiz answers are scored against stored answers. Student Pro includes 10 AI credits each month for Deck Drafting, accumulating up to 120, with each lot expiring after 365 days. Extra packs are not for sale.
Can I import PDFs?
Yes. Upload lecture slides, textbook chapters, or notes, and Deck Drafting turns them into editable flashcard drafts.
Can I study offline?
Yes. The native iOS and Android apps sync your decks and progress to your device, so you can keep reviewing without a connection. Changes sync when you're back online.
Is AnkiCat an alternative to Quizlet?
Both help you study with flashcards. AnkiCat drafts cards from your PDFs and notes, uses a true spaced-repetition algorithm, and adds exam-mode quizzes built on active recall. It is for learners who want timed retention with less manual card creation.
Does AnkiCat work on mobile?
Yes. Native iOS and Android apps, built for quick review sessions, offline study, and background sync.
Is my data private?
AnkiCat collects only what's needed to run the service: email, user ID, usage data, and crash diagnostics. No location, no contacts, no financial data beyond what your payment provider handles. Sign in with Apple is available. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
What does AnkiCat cost?
Student Pro is $59.99/yr with a 7-day free trial, or $9.99/mo, listed in USD. A free plan is available with limited daily usage (2 study sessions and 2 quizzes per day). Subscribe in the iOS or Android app. Apple and Google show the price in your currency. Extra AI credit packs are not for sale.
How does the yearly 7-day trial work?
Student Pro Yearly starts with 7 days free. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends or Apple or Google charges the yearly list price (US$59.99, or your storefront currency at checkout) and the subscription auto-renews each year until you cancel.
How do I cancel Student Pro?
Open the app, go to Settings, then Subscription. That row appears only while Student Pro is active. You can also cancel in Apple ID subscriptions or Google Play Payments and subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. You keep access until the trial or paid period finishes. AnkiCat cannot cancel an App Store or Play subscription from its own servers.
Who answers support questions?
A real person on the AnkiCat team. No chatbots, no automated support center. Email support@ankicat.com.
How do AI credits work?
Student Pro subscribers receive 10 AI credits every month. Credits accumulate up to a maximum of 120 credits (one year of grants). Each credit lot expires 365 days after it was granted. You will receive push notifications 3 months and 2 months before any credits expire, so you have time to use them.
What happens to my credits if I cancel?
You keep all unused credits until their original expiry date (365 days from when they were granted), even if you cancel your subscription. After expiry, credits are automatically removed from your balance.
Can I buy extra credits?
Extra credit packs are not sold at this time. All AI credits come from your Student Pro subscription allowance.
Why does AnkiCat have a subscription?
Subscriptions help cover ongoing development, support, hosting, and AI processing. Student Pro provides the benefits shown at checkout. Our mission is to make effective study tools accessible to more learners while maintaining educational quality and reliability.
Will subscription fees go down?
Our long-term goal is to lower fees as our costs fall sustainably, while preserving educational quality and reliability. There is no guaranteed reduction, amount, or timeline. Subscribe based on the current benefits and price shown at checkout.
Does AnkiCat plan to self-host AI?
With sufficient financial and operational resources, we hope to run suitable AI models on infrastructure we control. We would migrate only if study-task evaluations match or exceed current provider quality, and reliability and total costs make sense. There is no promised date; these are not guaranteed subscription benefits.
Would self-hosted AI mean offline AI?
No. Self-hosting means running AI on infrastructure we control, not on your device or training a proprietary model. Offline study lets you review synced cards without a connection; AI features need an internet connection. Today, AI processing uses external providers as described in our Privacy Policy.
